Coho-Derby

General Rules 2024

  • Regular Tournament Rules

  • You must read and sign your ticket!

  • Contest: Contest begins 12:01am on Friday and ends at 1pm on Sunday with awards ceremony at 5:00pm at Deland Park.

  • Registration: Registration fee is $40.00 for 3 days. All tickets need to be purchased before 9:00pm Thursday August 1st.

  • Size: A Minimum size limit of 18 inches for every species of fish will apply for all tournaments.

  • Categories: Contest Species are King Salmon, Coho Salmon, Lake Trout, Rainbow Trout, and Brown Trout.

  • Derby Headquarters: Deland Park

  • Licenses: Each contestant must hold a valid Wisconsin fishing license with appropriate GL trout stamp and may be required to present it at the time of registration.

  • Boundaries: Lake Michigan

  • Weigh-In: All fish caught by a contestant must be weighed in at one of the 3 official weigh in locations. Frozen, discolored or altered fish will not be eligible or accepted at weigh-in. All fish must be caught by hook and line and in accordance with the WI DNR fishing regulations.

  • Fish-Registration: 9am-9pm Friday and Saturday, 9am-1pm Sunday. Any contestants in line by 1pm Sunday are eligible to be weighed in and prizes. Anyone entering the line after 1pm on Sunday will not be eligible for weigh-in and prizes. First weigh-in is final, Decisions of the fish registration chairman are final.

  • Prizes: Prizes will be awarded by weight. Ties will decided by length and then time of registration. The remaining contestant will be moved down to the next positions. Special determinations to weight will be decided by tournament staff with the assistance of a DNR expert. Potential state records will be will be verified by the WI DNR. Determinations of the tournament staff will be official.

  • Display: The first place fish in every category may be displayed with adequate icing during the Coho Derby weekend. Any fish moving out of first place shall be removed by the contestant with permission from tournament staff.

  • Limitation: Tournament staff are not eligible for any prizes or awards.

  • Merchandise Prizes: Merchandise prizes winners need to pick up there prizes at the end of the tournament awards ceremony or contact tournament staff to make plans for pickup by Aug. 5th.

  • Polygraph: Tournament staff reserves the right to polygraph any contestant.

  • Protest: Any person wishing to protest any fish registered in any category for violation of any rule, must submit the protest in writing, with a cash protest fee of $50 to a member of the tournament staff (located at tournament headquarters) during the hours of the scale weigh-in. Protest fee will be refunded if the protest is found to be valid. The protest must state the rule violated and any facts to be known to the protester. All protests must be submitted no later than 7pm on Sunday August 4th. All protests will be reviewed by the tournament staff and their decision will be final.

  • Release of Liability:

  • He/She holds a valid Wisconsin fishing license, and at all times is subject to the laws and ordinances of the state of Wisconsin, Sheboygan County, Port-Washington County, Manitowoc County, and any other governmental entity with jurisdiction, and promises to utilize safe and responsible fishing and boating procedures.

  • He/She is aware that the sport of fishing and fishing tournaments have certain risks, some of which are hidden and which may involve natural or unnatural conditions, equipment, actions of staff, volunteers, contestant, and bystanders (including negligent or reckless actions). Contestants assume all risk of injury or damage.

  • Tournament staff, sponsors, and the city of Sheboygan are not responsible for the safety of persons or property of the contestants.

  • All contestants expressly agree to hold harmless from liability and indemnify any and all of the aforementioned entities and individuals from claims for any damage or injury incurred as a result from participating in the Derby, regardless of the form of manner said injury or damages might be incurred.
